Miss Deaf Teen Texas Tara McAvoy was struck down by a speeding Union Pacific train in Austin on Monday afternoon. Witnesses said that the conductor was frantically blowing the train's whistle while bystanders tried to get McAvoy's attention before she stepped in front of the locomotive.McAvoy has been deaf since birth and had recently begun to attend college at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Pageant officials said that she had held the position "with dignity and pride" all the way up to her totally ironic death. To put it in perspective, it would be like us dying by sunburn cause we're so white.
